Signs That Your Loved One Can Benefit From Assisted Living

Many of us have devoted time and money to take good care of our elderly loved ones. But sometimes a loved one may develop a condition like Alzheimer’s that needs special care. Home health care can be pretty expensive which is why you may consider senior living. Caring for a senior loved one can turn out to be stressful and consuming causing the caregiver to become ill. At that point, you may want to consider assisted living. Here are a few ways to determine if your loved one can benefit from senior living.

Agitated behavior

It is common for seniors to become agitated especially if they are suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. This behavior can take a toll on the loved one and even become a burden for the caregiver and the rest of the family. Taking the senior to a suitable facility can be beneficial to him/her as well as the entire family.

Safety concerns

If you are concerned about your loved one’s home safety, it’s time to really consider placement. Sometimes you are not able to care for the elderly loved one and you feel like him/her is unsafe at home.

Health care needs

Seniors may have health care issues that need proper care. You may not be able to provide them as a caregiver. This is especially the care when the person has dementia or any other health concern that could put you and the rest of the family at risk.

Sometimes your loved one may wander and you spend a lot of time trying to keep track of where they are. There’s also the fear of falls and injuries in case they go to places that aren’t secure. Taking your loved one to an assisted living community is one way to guarantee their safety and have peace of mind.

Aggression: Seniors with dementia usually exhibit aggressive behavior. It can be verbal, physical or even sexual aggression. What happens is that the family members or those around him/her become stressed and sometimes resent the elderly person. Consider taking the person to assisted living if it gets to that state.

Caregiver stress

If you as a caregiver experience a lot of mental pressure and stress as a result of taking care of your loved one, it’s time to consider taking them to a suitable facility. You may also need help in dealing with the stress.
